100 Years of Faith

In June, 1926, the Mission Chapel of the Little Flower of Jesus was officially designated as a parish of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. The name of this new parish was the Church of St. Therese, and with that, the story of Catholic parish life in our little corner of Saint Paul began.

The Catholic community that first worshiped at a small mission chapel across the river from Ft. Snelling would by the middle of the 20th century grow to include not one but three parishes and schools: the Church of St. Therese, the Church of St. Leo, and the Church of St. Gregory the Great. Responding to the signs of the times in the 1990s, these three communities consolidated into a single Highland Catholic Community. Finally, after much prayer, discernment, and collaborative effort, the three parishes incorporated into a single parish. The Church of Lumen Christi was officially incorporated on March 14, 2005.

No matter the season, our parish has been blessed by parishioners who are ever faithful to the gospel, always listening to the Spirit, and continually striving to share the Light of Christ with the world!

To mark our parish centennial, we invite parishioners past and present to share a memory or a photo that demonstrates how Lumen Christi or one of our legacy parishes brought the Light of Christ into your life. 

These memories can be as simple as a fun moment at a parish festival, as traditional as the celebration of a sacrament, or as personal as a powerful moment of private prayer. If you'd like to name a person or group that specifically shared the Light of Christ with you, we welcome those memories as well. We want to celebrate and share the many ways parish life brings the Light of Christ to our parishioners!
