Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)

Bring Your Children to Mass for the Children's Liturgy of the Word!

As parents, you are the first and most important teachers of your child’s faith. We invite you to nurture that faith by bringing your children to our Children’s Liturgy of the Word! This special program is designed for kids at least 4 years old and up and takes place during our Sunday 10:30 AM Mass. (Schedule to the left)
Why Bring Your Kids?

• Engaging Faith: Children hear the Sunday readings in words they can understand, helping them grow closer to God in a way that’s just for them.
• Interactive Learning: Our team of dedicated volunteers leads kids through age-appropriate activities, discussions, and prayers.
• Community and Belonging: It's a wonderful opportunity for children to participate in the Mass with other young believers and feel like they’re an important part of the parish family.
• Support for Parents: While your children attend the liturgy, you’ll be able to fully engage in the Mass, knowing that your little ones are learning and growing in faith.

No registration required! Simply join us at the 10:30 AM Mass, and children will be invited forward after the opening prayer to join in their own special liturgy.

Family Faith Formation: Fun with the Bible - New Testament Stories

This year, we're excited to invite families to join us for Fun with the Bible, a series designed to bring the joy of Scripture to life for children in grades 1-5. Over the course of nine engaging sessions, we'll explore select Bible stories in a creative and interactive way, helping kids connect with the Word of God through fun activities, meaningful discussions, games, and group activities. Whether you're new to the Bible or looking to deepen your family's faith journey, this is the perfect opportunity to grow together in Christ while having a lot of fun! We can't wait to see you there! Families attend mass either before or after our sessions (at either 8:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.). See dates above for our schedule. We meet in the Community Room from 9:30 to 10:25 a.m.

Grades 6-8 - Middle School: Thy Kingdom Come

Led by Deacon Mike, our study takes your teens on an in-depth journey into the heart of God through an in-depth journey into the Gospel of Matthew. Enter into the drama of Christ’s family tree, the birth of our Savior, His duel in the desert with Satan, and the life-changing truths of His Sermon on the Mount. Experience Jesus’ ministry unfold through His miracles and parables. Be there as our Lord triumphantly enters into Jerusalem on His way to the cross, tomb, and resurrection.

Youth in Grades 6-8 will meet monthly on select Sundays (see schedule above) between the morning masses, 9:30-10:25 am. Returning students please bring your Bible. New students will receive their own Bible.

Sacramental Preparation

Parish Policies for Sacraments
All families celebrating sacraments at Lumen Christi must be registered members of the parish. Children must be active participants in faith formation programs at Lumen Christi or be enrolled in a Catholic school, the year before AND the year in which they are to receive the sacrament. Children must attend weekend mass with family members on a weekly basis.

Infant Baptism class is offered monthly year-round, as well as an at-home version. Parents are encouraged to participate in class well in advance of the desired date of Baptism.  More information.

Most children celebrate  First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in 2nd grade, but parents decide when their child is ready.  Some choose to wait until their child is older.  More information about this process.

Confirmation will be celebrated in the spring at the Cathedral, for 8th grade and above. Preparation for Confirmation is in addition to regular attendance in the Lumen Christi Faith Formation program or at a Catholic School.  Program description.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process for becoming Catholic. Those ages 7 or older prepare for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.  Those who were Baptized in another Christian tradition may participate in a modified RCIA process to become Catholic.  Each person’s journey is unique, so we begin with a conversation about the individual’s situation.  The RCIA team welcomes no-strings-attached inquiries.
